Entry Level Vehicle Technician Training

If you would like to become an auto repair technician, but don’t have any experience, these classes are for you!

This series of classes requires:

  • A meter owned by the student – CAT III rated to 1000V with accessories, and an electrical book for Units A and B.
  • High voltage gloves owned by the student and a Hybrid Book for Unit C.
  • A commitment to spend 96 hours in class.
  • The time and ability to complete 4 hours of hands-on self study using a car and online homework in between classes.
  • A total time commitment (class time and homework) of 132 hours.
  • The total cost to complete all 3 units is $3,790.

ACDC Unit A Training: Introduction to Automotive Electrical Systems - Level 1

This 32-hour class will be held once per week for 4 weeks.  Topics covered include:

  1. Electrical Analysis for the Confused
  2. Basic Circuits
  3. Circuit Board Testing
  4. Meters and Other Test Equipment
  5. Wiring Diagrams
  6. Testing Circuits
  7. Batteries: Construction, Function, and Testing
  8. Wiring Repair
  9. Switches, Grounds, and Loads

ACDC Unit B Training: Introduction to Automotive Electrical Systems - Level 2

This 32-hour class will be held once per week for 4 weeks.  Topics covered will include:

  1. Scopes – Resources and Info Lookup
  2. Deeper Dive into Circuits and Loads
  3. Current Testing with a Scope
  4. Typical Electrical Problems
  5. Fuses, Circuit Breakers, and Relays
  6. Parasitic Draws
  7. Testing Coils
  8. Milliohms
  9. Alternators, Starters, and Batteries

ACDC Unit C Training: Introduction to Automotive Electrical Systems - Level 3

This 32-hour class will be held once per week for four weeks.  Topics covered include:
  1. Advanced Scopes
  2. Compressor Testing with a Scope
  3. CAN-BUS and LIN-BUS
  4. Network Systems
  5. Electronics: Power and Ground
  6. Input and Output in an ECU
  7. Testing Sensors
  8. Ghost Voltage
  9. Review of Units 5, 6, and 7
